On June 3, 2009, Delta Airlines will begin non stop service from Salt Lake City International Airport, Utah to Tokyo Narita International Airport, Japan. The new service option comes as a direct result of Delta’s merger with Northwest Airlines, which had a hub in Tokyo. The Salt Lake City-Tokyo flights will be flown on an Airbus A330 and run five times a week.
Additionally, Delta plans to offer a new connection between Tokyo to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam as well as taking over the 8 other cities previously serviced by Northwest before the merger. Together, the new Delta Airlines will service 9 of the 20 major Asian markets.
The non stop flights is certain to open up more tourism and business opportunities for businesses in Salt Lake City as well as Tokyo.
